Apartment builder Legacy Partners is headed to Forney for its next North Texas project.

The California-based developer is planning a 336-unit rental community in Forney’s Gateway district near U.S. Highway 80. The $30 million multifamily project would start next month and take about two years to build, according to planning documents filed with the state. JHP Architecture is designing the rental community.

Legacy Partners has a track record of apartment building in North Texas. The company recently bought land in Melissa north of Dallas for a new rental community. It also has existing apartment properties in Irving, Lewisville and Richardson.

Located in Kaufman County just east of Dallas, Forney has seen a boom in population with thousands of new homes and commercial development. The city is one of North Texas’ fastest-growing industrial building markets with millions of square feet of new warehousing.

Retailers are growing their footprint in Forney with new locations.

Plano-based Aspire Ventures plans to build a 336-unit rental community in Forney in the Gateway development. Dallas-Fort Worth is the country’s fastest-growing apartment market with more than 65,000 units under construction in the area.
